Volunteering in Haiti was a life changing experience. Not only was it eye opening to see how other people really live and survive but also the different cultures and how they do things in their own country was so interesting. From there daily life activities to what they eat, where thy sleep, and how they interact. I volunteered with an established medical team out of Tallahassee, Florida. To be part of this volunteering group you do not have to have medical experience but if you do, that is even better! There were many medical students, doctors, nurses, and even those who are not in the medical field who volunteered their time to travel to Haiti and help out! By volunteering with a group, it makes traveling alone less scary and you always make new friends some of them life long! I was lucky enough to travel with one of my best friends and experience everything together! We flew into Puerto prince, Haiti and then began our journey to where they have an established medical clinic and housing physicality set up for volunteers. This clinic is in a little village known as Campeche-Dumay.
Above Picture is of the local kids of Dumay dressed up for church every Sunday.
I feel so blessed to have been able to sit in on church and experience their passion for god and the hope and faith they have. It brought tears to my eyes even only only understanding half of what was preached. Luckily we had translators to help with language barriers throughout the whole trip!

Above photo is of a local boy using mules to transport items up and down the hills of Campeche.

How can you not love this little face! One of the many babies/children we would see each day in and out of the clinic.
Haiti isn't just small villages, rolling green hills, and undeveloped towns, there is also a beautiful coast line we got to experience after some time volunteering in the village and debrief before heading back to the states. The warm and beautiful Caribbean sea surrounds Haiti. You can find beautiful beaches and resorts small to big along the coast line. If volunteering isn't your thing, don't cross Haiti off the list, a beach vacation for minimal cost could also benefit the country, the Haitian people and yourself as well. Haiti can make for a great beach vacation and getaway.
If you are looking to volunteer, learn medical skills, practice medical skills, open your eyes to other cultures, make life long friends, and make a difference in peoples lives, I highly recommend volunteering with an organization like the Tallahassee Medical Team! Ill post the link below if you are curious or interested in volunteering!
