After a spontaneous plane ticket purchase to Athens, Greece several months before our departure, little did we know this trip couldn't come soon enough. Unfortunately my Mom and her fiance lost their home to the Carr fire in my hometown Redding, California a few weeks before we left on our big journey. Times were hard but my Mama really needed this journey after all the stress and loss our family dealt with.
(Update: I'm so excited to announce my mom has a new house and they are settling back in and healing from the loss)
We decided to head to Greece in August which is a busier time of year but also a beautiful time of year if you want to visit the islands! Which of course is a must! We started our one month journey in Athens, an extremely historical and beautiful city. There is so much to do and see around Athens you could spend a week, which is what we did!

We explored the beautiful Parthenon and Acropolis historic sites. I recommend getting up early when visiting! It can get very busy by 10 am and a photo is nearly impossible, and the heat! A pass is available at the many historic sites for about 15-20 Euros. It is well worth it, otherwise you must pay an entrance fee to each individually.
A few days were spent just wondering the colorful streets and enjoying delicious Greek food and treats in many different cafes and restaurants. Plaka neighborhood was one of my favorite areas! Adorable cafes, colorful streets, cute Greek houses, street art, and shopping. Plaka is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Athens, filled with cobble stone streets and color.
Monastriraki Square and the neighborhood area was a great place to explore and also where we stayed. There is a lot of food options, coffee shops, shopping streets, markets, beautiful historic buildings, and pastry shops. Athens in an extremely photogenic city because of the art and architecture.
Some other great places to check out that I loved in the Athens is Syntagma Square and the surrounding neighborhood! It is a central plaza with cafes, tree lined central park, beautiful architecture and history and a fountain.

Check out our journey to our next destination in Greece...... The infamous island of Santorini.
