Ko Tao, Thailand is one of my favorite islands in Thailand! This little island has it all from diving, snorkeling, hiking, water sports, island hopping, night life, street food, seafood, and even shopping local and trendy! Alot of people travel to Ko Tao just for the scuba diving. It is one of the cheapest places in the world to get certified, and the whale shark sightings aren't too bad either! We got our SSI certification on Ko Tao island and did our training with Roctopus Dive Center. I highly recommend doing your certifications through them because the groups are small and you get a better one on one training and experience! (Request J-Mac and by him a Chang! He's the coolest instructor!)
Not only is the island a diving mecca, the snorkeling and exploring of the many white sandy beautiful beaches is incredible!
Some of my favorites are:
-Freedom Beach
-Sai Daeng Beach
-Ko Nang Yuan
-Mango Bay
-Ao Leuk
-Tanote Bay
-Shark Cove
If you don't rent your own scooter bike (which i highly recommend) you can take tuk tuk's and taxis for very little baht around the island and taxi boats are also a great way for transportation!
Must Do's if visiting Ko Tao:
-Snorkel at Tanote Bay, Mango Bay, and Shark Island
-Go Scuba Diving
-Go rock jumping at Tanote Bay
-Rent motorbikes and explore the island (best way to get to Tanote Bay)
-If your feeling really adventurous rent a scooter and ride the crazy steep roads to Mango Bay! (may require walking at some points)
-Eat at 995 Duck in town near Sairee, Beach. (Best authentic Thai soups&noodles!)
- Kayak to Shark Island and the surrounding beaches!
-Take a boat Taxi to the closest island Ko Nang Yuan & do the famous hike! The view is really worth it.
-Treat yourself to a sunset dinner on Sairee Beach and a fresh seafood dinner!
-Do the pub crawl at Choppers Sports Bar! (great way to meet other travelers and you get a cool shirt)
Our plan was to spend about a week on Ko Tao and that week turned into a few! The people are so kind, the other travelers we met became friends, and now we have a new passion we can do anywhere in the world, scuba diving! The little paradise has it all and is worth the trek getting there and don't forget about Ko Tao's sisters islands Ko Samui and Ko Pha ngan.
