Sawyer and I have explored many islands in Thailand starting with Phuket on our first trip to South East Asia. Phuket is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand and the most visited island. Our first time we went to Thailand we started our journey in Phuket Thailand. It didn't leave the best impression on us as it was our first time to South East Asia and we had not learned how Thailand worked yet. Now after traveling all over South East Asia for months at a time and understanding the cultures and how to travel here successfully, exploring Phuket a second time around was an incredible adventure! Although Phuket is still touristy, it is easy to break away from the over ran commercialized areas. We were traveling with two friends and we all stayed in the familiar Kata/Karon beach area at a cute Air bnb (which i highly recommend doing if staying in Phuket). You get more for your money and they are usually much nicer places than hostels that are extremely crowded. I recommend staying at the Assada Boutique Hotel! It is in a great Area and close to a lot of local restaurants and the main Kata Beach. You can rent cheap motorbikes one minute from the hotel and since the Air bnb is in a hotel your room gets cleaned everyday!
While exploring Phuket we journeyed back up to the Big Buddha a second time but this time at sunset. Capturing the Buddha at sunset was spectacular and the best part was you didn't bake in the hot sun and there was almost no one else there so you can actually get a decent photograph!
We also spent a couple days beach hopping the different beaches and areas. We headed south since we had only been to a few beaches in the North. Little did we know that beyond the main beach areas like Patong beach, Kata beach, and Karon beach there were hidden gems with turquoise blue waters and white sandy shores!
Nai Harn Beach, Phuket was post card perfection. The sand was soft and white and the water was incredible. The best part was inexpensive restaurants along the shores and the extremely un crowded beach compared to its sister beaches up north. Also around the corner from Nai Harn beach, Ao Sane beach lye in a little cove and you can snorkel and see some beautiful fishies! Not to mention its a gorgeous drive through the hills of Phuket to get there.
Kata Noi Beach was another great find! The water is beautiful and beach is un crowded compared to Kata and Patong. It was great to spend the day swimming here!
My favorite place to watch the sunset is still at Kata Beach or Kata Noi beach. It seems to never disappoint!
