Whistler, British Columbia Snowboarding Trip

Now that Whistler Blackcomb Mountain is owned by Vail Resorts, Bre and I took advantage of our epic Tahoe local snowboard pass and decided a trip to Canada was very necessary! Round trip tickets were surprisingly cheap into Vancouver for the month of January and even February. We booked an Airbnb that was reasonably priced ten minutes from the Whistler Village. To get to and from Vancouver to Whistler, we booked through epicrides.com , it is thirty five dollars in American round trip! The bus system is super great and very cheap to get around with within Whistler. If you don't like to rely on the bus system, the cabs are also very great in the area and are not to over priced. Whistler Village is huge with so much to do, and the nightlife and bar scene isn't to bad either! Some of our favorite places Bre and I enjoyed was, Tapley's Neighbourhood Pub, The Mexican Corner, and El Furniture Warehouse (famous for their 5.95 food menu). Both of these places have great food and drinks! Little tip, always ask for a double ! ;)

We spent a week at Whistler Blackcomb riding and the snow didn't stop coming! They claimed about a foot of snow or more a day throughout the whole week. Let's just say my back leg needs some tender loving care after this last week of non stop pow turns and hiking. One of our best pow days was when we met up with our two local friends Katie and Toby. They showed us around and showed us the secret spots to get the goods. It was probably one of the best powder days we have ever had, no lift lines, non-stop snowing, refills, good company, and fresh turns every run. I spent that day smiling like a little kid from ear to ear! That day we lapped Peak Express and all over the face and whistler peak, and the bowl, and the backside of the bowl back down to Red chair for long laps. We even conquered some fears and dropped through a rock face crevice multiple times with zero visibility (but it was worth it)!!

Some of our favorite spots around both Whistler and Balckcomb for riding pow (which many locals gave us pointers to check out these places, so thanks!) was off of Peak Express on the Whistler Side, Off of Seventh Heaven on the Blackcomb side, and Blackcomb Glacier area. There are a lot of areas where you can take the lifts up, and then continue to earn your turns and hike. I highly recommend this on a day where the pow is fresh and the visibility is good! Plus it is a great way to warm up and the views are incredible.

Not only is Whistler a super fun nightlife scene, Vancouver, British Columbia is also a very lively place. There is so much to eat, see, drink, and do around Vancouver, that it is a must to at least spend a few days in the City, so that is exactly what we did! Vancouver is where we started and also ended our journey to Whistler. Luckily Bre's aunt lives near Vancouver so we got the grand tour from a local! We explore all the main hot spots of the city, Stanley Park and English Bay was beautiful even with the rain. We ate a delicious lunch at Granville Island (with excellent ocean views) and explored the little shops. The seafood and sushi is a must if visiting Vancouver! We learned that their is a huge Asian and Japanese influence in the area and that the Sushi is some of the best! (next to Japan of course)

At night we had quite the adventure bar hopping and strolling the streets of Vancouver. We started in Yale town and then made our way to Granville street where there is a blocked road of pubs, bars, and night clubs! Be careful when taking cabs, they drive like crazy people and sometimes they don't actually know where they are going. Our 20 minute cab ride turned into two hours of craziness with a cab driver who barley spoke a lick of English and could barley get us home. (lets hope Uber makes its way to BC) But that is all part of the adventure when traveling! It's not exciting without a few bumps in the road.

Overall our trip was unforgettable and quite the adventure! I'm so thankful for a great travel partner, and best friend to share the adventure with and all the great people we met along the way! We are already planning our second trip to Whistler and British Columbia area for round two, stay tuned!
